a horary explained.
I am sure everyone is fed up of thinking about the new US president and what this might mean for the US and the world. From this side of the pond it looks like a collective mental breakdown, but who knows? There is an old Buddhist teaching about good luck and back luck, which is too long to go into here, but in one part a man’s son falls off his horse and breaks his leg. ‘Bad luck’ says the man’s friends. ‘We shall see says the man.’ The king’s army arrives in the village and takes all the young men to fight in his war, they are not expected to return. The old man’s son is not taken as he has a broken leg, ‘Good luck’ says the man’s friends, ‘we shall see’ says the man. You get the picture, it is hard to know until later what is good or bad. Although, in this case, the good is rather hard to see at present.
Which brings me to the chart. I asked the question as pundits were suggesting the tide was turning in favour of him, which was a grim prospect from where I stood. Instead of looking at his natal chart or the chart of the election, I decided a horary would give the clearest answer, as indeed it did.

Horary has strict rules which I see as giving clarity and also boundaries around what we may ask and what is forbidden for us to know. I like that exactness, because firm limitations give space to play within the rules. Horary is as deep as you wish it to be, it answers a question and then answers the real question which often lies underneath, as we shall see.
The first move is can the chart be judged? The answer is yes, there is neither and early or a late degree rising, the Moon is not Void of Course, and Saturn is neither in the 1st or 7th houses.
Secondly, we look for the Querent and Quesited, the person concerned and the question. The ruler of the Ascendant shows the person. He is shown by Jupiter in detriment, retrograde at 20′ Gemini, widely conjunct the Descendant. Gemini is his Sun sign, indeed, his North Node is 20′ degrees Gemini and his Sun 23′ degrees. This then does describe the Querent. The Querent shown as a debilitated Jupiter in Gemini, may show his wild speech patterns and use of ‘alternative facts’.
Rulers and elections and what holds power in the matter, is shown by the 10th house. It is ruled by Venus, in Sagittarius at 16′ degrees. Venus is peregrine, like the Jupiter, it has no dignity. Are the two planets in aspect? Yes, Jupiter is retrograding back to the opposition of Venus, the aspect becomes exact on November 3rd, two days before the election. Derek Appleby says of perfection by opposition (meeting of Querent and Quesited) that,
‘ An opposition between significators can bring matters to perfection, but only at heavy cost, and the Querent is likely to regret the thing was done at all’ 1
So, the answer to my question is yes, he will win the election. But the chart does beg the question of why such a debilitated Querent could win (his faculties are definitely in decline). I could argue that the people, shown by the Moon, are looking for a fight (applying to Mars) and wanting to blow things us (square to Pluto) and this aspect also is exact on November 3rd. Certainly, the narrative of the small state and abolishing anything other than white , male privilege or ‘wokeness’ has been a driving force in the manosphere of his supporters.
Looking to the Moon which you can also use as co-significator, we see a Moon in Libra in the 10th house of government separating from a trine of Jupiter and applying to a square of Mars in Cancer in the 8th and Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd. Both malefics (Mars and Pluto) in a hard aspect to the Moon shows trouble and strife (Mars) and implosion or explosion (Pluto) in the money houses (2nd and 8th). The Moon is also peregrine, having no dignity. The whole question appears tawdry and weak.
All the aspects and the planets are in such poor condition, ordinarily I would have expected a very close result or a disputed result, but this was not the case, he won a clear victory. So what is going on?
I am writing a Horary online course, watch this space for updates!
I looked to the ruler of Gemini (the sign Jupiter is in) and find Mercury in secret Machiavellian Scorpio in the 11th house of hopes and wishes and colleagues. Someone is working behind the scenes (Scorpio) and pulling the strings (ruler of Gemini) which is the two-faced sign, associated with thieves, liars and spies.
A few days later I heard a news report about Musk, currently the world’s richest man, raving about his trans child and the ‘woke mind virus’ that was responsible for their transition. It turns out that Musk was funding his campaign to the tune of millions, in return for which, the trans legislation would be repealed. To emphasize the connection, Musk has Jupiter at 27’38 Scorpio, conjunct the horary Mercury at 26’39. Doubtless, Musk will make a whole lot more money from government contracts too.
This explains everything and shows what is really going on. A vengeful (Scorpio) friend (ruler of the 7th) is the power behind the weak, debilitated ‘victor’.
And so it has transpired. One of the first pieces of legislation he passed was to repeal the trans-supporting laws. The man got what he paid for.
