Moving into a new age.

Last week, Neptune the planet of illusions and delusions moved into Aries. Neptune changed signs last in February 2012. Neptune spends around 15 years in each sign, it will leave Aries in 2039. So, that is half a generation, usually calculated at around 28 years.

Neptune was discovered during the night of 23-24th of September in 1846 it was not seen, but calculated using mathematics by German mathematician Johann Galle in Berlin. When planets are discovered, to find their meaning, astrologers look at events happening around that time.
In September 1846 the Electric Telegraph Company was founded in the UK the first in the world. The Irish famine continued, the first deaths were earlier in the year. The Cholera epidemic continued in S.E.Asia. In October was the first public demonstration of anaesthesia for dentistry by Dr Morton at the Massachusetts General Hospital, California broke away from Mexico, starting the Mexican American War. The first camera, sewing machine and saxophone were patented. This is a pretty wide mix of events, but suffering on a huge scale, genocide in Ireland, epidemic in S.E. Asia, also war, plus technical innovations.
The last time Neptune was in Aries was 1861-1875. Notable during this period was the American Civil War, the reunification of Italy and Germany, and the increased interest in Spiritualism and other non-traditional religious beliefs and mesmerism (hypnosis).

Aries, often the sign of the lone wolf and the warrior, does work with groups without wanting to dominate them. The themes of fairness and justice are important to them and freedom, they will fight for their own personal freedom and that of other people. This, I feel will be a theme during this transit. After the dreaminess and illusion of Neptune in Pisces, Neptune in Aries will offer action for ‘the little people’ who have been crushed by the passivity of the last fifteen years and the heavy handedness of all the Capricorn planets, at one time, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto were in the sign of the patriarch.
Already we are seeing the unraveling of old alliances and threats of more wars and a stagnation of the economy. The polarity between those who have and the rest of us is stark, and the people are rebelling, everywhere. Technology has speeded this up, social media means we can connect and organise worldwide, and people understand our issues are a ‘we’ problem, not a ‘me’ problem.
As the chart above suggests, with Neptune contact the MC, the house of government but ruling the 9th house of overseas interests, with Pluto conjunct the seventh house of friends and enemies, the fat is in the fire.
You may argue this is the influence of Pluto in Aquarius and that may be true as well. Certainly, technology is given to Aquarius, but I don’t think anyone could have predicted that it would be used for revolution. Tech bros, on the other hand are learning that people power via online organising may cause their downfall and their continued dominance and wealth (which is ephemeral) can be destroyed fairly easily as has been seen by Musk1.

As mentioned in a previous blog all three of the trans-Saturnian planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto change signs this year, plus Saturn. They will make easy aspects to each other, sextiles and trines. Saturn goes into Aries on May 26th, followed by Uranus into Gemini on July 8th.
Clearly, if you have personal planets in early Aries or Libra, Neptune gets to 2′ Aries during the year and then turns retrograde and goes briefly back in to Pisces, this will affect you more. Aries and Neptune are incompatible, fire and water. You may find yourself less sure of yourself, more tired, maybe a bit lost, which is not usually an Aries trait, they have a strong sense of self. Like a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis, you may have to auto-digest before a new you emerges. Neptune dissolves, change can sometimes be uncomfortable, but it is inevitable and resistance is futile.
In the past few years we have had lessons on Earth (all that Capricorn) and Water (both Neptune and Saturn in Pisces) now we are in for the helter-skelter of Fire and Air, which will be exciting, challenging and fast moving.
