Horary astrology and competition
It must be said I have little interest in football, but it has been hard to ignore the World Cup these past weeks. Like many non football people I have been enamoured by the supporters showing how we all get on just fine…if only our leaders could stop their sociopathic machinations.
Being caught up in the drama, I asked a question about England’s next match which was a much hyped match between Mexico, who was then beloved for their warmth and welcome to football fans from around the world. So, I asked the question,
England are shown by the Sun (the Lions) in Cancer ruling the 1st house. Mexico are shown by Saturn in Aries in the 9th, (a foreign enemy). Neither planet has much dignity. The Moon is conjunct the 7th house cusp in Aquarius. Frawley1, says the North Node in the 7th shows an opposition win.
Simmonite says Venus in the first house shows a win for the Ascendant team2, and the ruler of the 1st and 5th (contests) in reception the home team wins, and indeed they are in reception. Jupiter in Leo, ruler of the 5th is in mutual reception to the Sun in Cancer (sign of Jupiter’s exaltation). He also states when the ruler of the 5th has more dignity than the ruler of the 7th or the Moon it is a home team win, and this is the case.
He also argues for a loss for the home team when the Lord of the 1st is debilitated and also the Moon. Neither the Moon not the Sun have any dignity.
The Moon applies to an opposition to the Venus, the chart was raised on the day of Venus and the hour of the Moon. That is the Moon’s final aspect before changing signs.
The angular Venus (1st house) plus the strong 5th house ruler overcame the debilitated Moon for a win.
England won 3:2.
** you may ask why I didn’t use the match charts or locate the horaries where the match was being played. I asked the question and I was in London, so, I situated the horary there. I did not use the match chart (an event chart) as I wished to see how contests worked out in horary. Other astrologers may disagree with my methods.**
I asked a question about the following match against Norway
We have a Leo ascendant again (the Lions), the Sun in Cancer in the 12th. The opposition is shown by Saturn in Aries angular conjunct the MC. The Moon is in Gemini separating from a close conjunction to Uranus, applying to a trine of Pluto conjunct the Descendant. If we ignore the transpersonal planets then the Moon’s next aspect is a conjunction of Mars, ruler of the 5th house. Jupiter is applying to conjunct the Ascendant (4′ away). Despite the weak Sun, the Moon applying to the ruler of the 5th suggests victory.
What of the angular malefics? Saturn in fall conjunct the MC, suggests issues with the referee. A Norway goal was disallowed but a disputed England goal was let through. With all the technology on the pitch and the ball, they were probably right calls, but Saturn conjunct the MC suggests issues with the refereeing which has been a constant in the competition. Pluto is co-ruler of the 5th house, but is retrograde and moving away from the Descendant showing the opposition would lose the contest. Saturn on the MC shows a game that was not dynamic like the Mexico match, both sides looked tired (Saturn) and the heat and humidity was intense (Jupiter in Leo?).
England won 2:1.
My final question was the semi final.
I am writing this the day before the match so, I will make a prediction. The home team is shown by Venus in Virgo in the 11th, the opposition Mars in Gemini in the 8th. The Moon is in Cancer in the 9th. The ruler of the 5th is Saturn in Aries conjunct the 7th house, although it is about to go retrograde (July 27th).
Venus is applying to a square of Uranus in the 8th and then a square to Mars also in the 8th, showing a hard match, I would argue there was a lot of hatred between the teams, there were 26 fouls in the game, and of course there is the issue of the Falklands3.
Which planet has more dignity? Venus rules the day triplicity in Virgo but is also in Fall there, Mars is peregrine (has no dignity). So, the home team is slightly stronger. The Moon is applying to Saturn ruler of the 5th by square. Her last aspect before moving sign is a conjunction of the Sun.
Simmonite says the North Node in the 5th is a slight testimony of the home team winning.
However, the ruler of the 1st is separating from a conjunction of the South Node, 4′ and the SN is retrograding away. Frawley judges a significator conjunct the SN is a great debility and the match can be judged by that alone, the home team loses.
Other testaments for losing include, the Lord of the 5th in reception to Lord of the 7th, Saturn in Aries, Mars receives. The Part of Fortune in good aspect to the Lord of the 7th, they are in a separating trine.
Mercury, retrograde in the Terms of Cancer disposits both Venus in Virgo and Mars in Gemini. I am not sure what that represents, if anything. Except perhaps that all these horaries have a retrograde Mercury, which is a stricture, perhaps because the outcome was unexpected. England was not predicted to win against Mexico and doubtful against Norway.
Both significators are weak, Venus in Virgo, Mars in Gemini, but the Moon, co-significator of the home team is strong, and applying to the ruler of the 5th, so I predict a win for the home team…
As you probably know, I was wrong. England scored an early goal but eventually lost 2:1.
Why was that? The Moon decreasing in light, applying to conjunct the Sun, wide of combustion but heading that way, significantly weakens it. New Moons are nearly always negative in horary. Also, the antiscion of Mars is at 20′ Cancer, conjunct the Mercury which disposits the Venus, another significator for a home team loss.
